I’m probably the biggest biscuits and gravy fanatic in the city. The breakfast dish is something that always brings me back to simpler times. And it’s not hard to make, but sometimes eateries like to spice it up to bring it to a gourmet level. When I first discovered The Shop in Nob Hill, I realized they served the item.

Now, these weren’t regular Southern-style biscuits and gravy; they added their own New Mexican twist to them. We’re talking about a spicy, flavorful twist to their own concoction, the biscuits and chorizo gravy ($9). Two of my favorite items infused into one hell of an entree. My mornings are complete when I get to have a couple of bites of this. It’s your classic build with the Southwestern approach that welcomes the consumer. My number one recommendation.

I’ve written about their chilaquiles ($12.50) in the past and how those alone have made me a regular at The Shop. But if you want to take a break on the heat, and need a little more sweet, then order some fluffy lemon cornmeal pancakes ($10). These items are perfect for the season. They feature a blue cornmeal mix topped with lemon curd, berry jam and fresh berries. Tart yet sweet, but always tasty.

The Shop has become one of those places in Nob Hill that has all the breakfast foodies raving about it. Created by chef Israel Rivera, his shop is a stop we all must consider when we feel hungry at sunrise—or even mid-day!
