Pandemic times have developed the Downtown central strip into a ghost town. Clubs and bars wait to re-open to the bustling Downtown crowd as Albuquerque’s numbers continue to fall. However, a diamond in the rough shines in the shell of the Downtown strip.
Red Door Brewing, a hip, loud bar sitting in the pocket of Downtown, has been serving the public since patio seating re-opened a couple of months back. And their selection of beer is some of the best in town. Starting with their year-long tap list, Red Door’s Vanilla Cream Ale is a smooth, silky delight. Especially if you’re a fan of cream sodas like myself, you’re going to taste the similarities in this brew.
Now, Red Door drops a seasonal selection like all the other breweries around town, but these brews match perfectly with the seasons. As the weather gets a little warmer, I suggest Major Tom to Ground Control, Red Door’s seasonal IPA infused with galaxy, Simcoe and Motueka hops. It’s an IPA melting pot featuring my favorite tastes.
If you feel a hankering coming on for some pub bites, Red Door has a great bar menu. Try their delicious Dirty Fries ($13), a gooey, cheesy delicious mess topped with avocado, bacon, cheese curds and of course, green chile. It’s the perfect combo with a cold beer on a nice afternoon.
Since Red Door started back in 2014, it has become one of the cooler bars in town. With taps all across Albuquerque, you’re sure to find a Red Door brew in a local establishment. So if you got some time between work, or looking for a chill spot on the weekend, go to Red Door.
