Beers, beers and more beers. That’s what Lizard Tail in the Heights is all about. A dark, quirky little spot right next to Dirty Bourbon, it will remind you of the old sitcom “Cheers,” a place where everyone knows your name.

I first stumbled onto Lizard Tail after a friend told me they had a nice beer selection. After pulling up and seeing how small this place was, I wondered how this place was a brewery. Think of the Albuquerque titans of the beer game—establishments like Marble Brewing have two-story breweries and often have a bustling line wrapped around the building. But Lizard Tail was different.

After heading in, I was greeted with a smile, and the staff made me feel like family. Gazing over the menu, I was baffled by how many beers Lizard Tail had to offer. The first one to catch my eye was the Bluetail Blonde ($7). Seldom do I drink them, but the name was catchy. After the first sip, I quickly ordered another one. Sweet yet smooth, I recommend ordering a pint of the Bluetail.

There’s a certain mystery on where and how Lizard Tail got started, and I have yet to find the story. But the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. With a chill, ’70s vibe, I can see myself returning. The crowd makes you feel like one of them, engaging in intellectual conversation, making new friends. Lizard Tail has found a new regular.
