Finding a good sushi spot in the middle of the desert can be challenging—especially if you’re an import from either coast. However, the quest for a tasty roll has been simplified. The answer is a tasty little joint on Silver Ave. called Don Sushi. It’s a new-ish spot that offers a wide variety of sushi-related entrees.

The don of Albuquerque sushi gets creative when whipping up their rolls. I’m a straightforward sushi guy—I like a New Mexico roll where I can taste that crunchy green chile—but this eatery gets me into experimentation mode.

One of the first rolls that caught my eye when first arriving at this spot was their Super Mario Roll ($13.19). An imaginative entree, it will light up your senses with powerful flavors of salmon and their special eel sauce. And it’s got green chile inside.

If you’re all “sushied” out and need an item with a touch of Latin flair, check out their ceviche platters. These items won’t disappoint your taste buds. Dishes containing a plethora of seafood choices mixed with fresh vegetables and spices.

Don Sushi is a quaint little spot where you feel hip just knowing the name. Only true Albuquerque sushi aficionados know where to find the best spot for rolls and sake. For the folks who need a fresh taste of scenery, it’s the perfect hideout for a cold michelada and a bowl of fresh ceviche.
